What Is Tubeless?
Tubeless overdrive pedals are not designed by an electrical engineer, but by an actual guitar maker and his professional team. The sound is musical, real, warm and of course melds perfectly with your favorite guitars!
For years guitar players have searched for more realistic pedal tones, like the tones from the amplifiers in their back line. Professional guitar maker “X” started the design process for a pedal that would have the tone that reflected his and his professional team and clients' experiences and feedback. Our research team did thousands real life audio tests. This has taken many years and countless hours with a multitude of world renowned “target” amps to simulate how the Tubeless pedal would respond.
It was during our research process that we realized the best tone does not always come from hi-tech manufacturing. Our goal was to create the hottest overdrive sound, much like burning the circuit, and adequately supply that to quality tone enthusiasts. It was through this goal that Smoky Signal Audio was born.
After our many years of research and development, we have finally found the best combination of circuit design, diodes, capacitors and resistors. We use a combination of discontinued, new, and old stock parts.
Our overdrive pedals have a very limited production. Each of these is hand made and then tuned to the expert hears of our designer. We then assemble each of them by hand, much like the way a five star chef will make marvelous and unique meals, one at a time. We use the best only NOS parts and each pedal has been tuned individually. We don’t use replacement or alternate parts, even those that seem to have the same model or manufacture numbers! We know how important a small change in components can be. It can literally “destroy” the delicate balance we create.
We have made two types of over drive pedals, the EL-34D and the EL-84M.
Both can simulate famous modern boutique amps. But that is only the beginning, these offer the player the touch sensitive response of anything from a melodic harmonic “D-style” class AB EL-34 sound to the wild “M-style” class A EL-84 sound.
The sound is so much like your fantasy real tube amp, that in blind testing players were hard pressed to tell that there are NO tubes driving the front-end of the amp.
That is why we named the pedals Tubeless…
